The description of ROBLOX
Making a good game is a good idea if you want to make it popular. But it’s been proven by Tom Sawyer that it’s better to have someone do your job. All you need to do is to show them it’s fun. Roblox developers are obviously Tom Sawyer’s kin. They let their users create games and have fun (and money) with it.
The name is the fate. Authors are supposed to make games out of blocks prepared by platform, and the platform provides everything, from SDK for making games to servers to store and run them. That’s why Roblox only offers online access.
As for regular users, Roblox is a kind of game-centered social network. Under one account you have access to over million games, with common billing, unified stats, and virtually the same stylistics and controls. The best of them, though, are quite popular. First of all, these are simulators, arcades, and puzzles.
Some of Roblox games are highly popular, like Work at a Pizza Place, Jailbreak, Royale High, or Adopt Me! They even look more decent than Roblox engine seems to offer (though it’s due to elaborate promo representation). And some are really great, despite Roblox design style, offering really amusing gameplay or even visuals. Say, Royale High takes you to a funky shining city made upon this platform, and Murder Mystery is an arcade within a luxurious building you’re running all over.
If you master some of them, it will be easier to deal with others, as the control system is unified. One life is not enough to try all of them, so you better rely on recommendations. And if you discover something worthy, don’t forget to share it with your friends. Invite them to Roblox if they’re still outside.
Roblox also offers elements of social network. You can make friends or follow users, chat to each other, compete in the same games, show off your records, show your virtual buildings, comment on games and recommend or not recommend them to others.
As Roblox is designed as some kind of Lego for game developers, games based on it look square-based, rough and sometimes buggy in visuals, as its SDK suggests. Yet anyone can upgrade from just a player o a beginner in game development. Maybe, you’ll create a Roblox masterpiece, and maybe, you’ll go further.
Its simplicity has one more pro: Roblox is well optimized for old devices. We tried it with a new iPad Pro as well as with an LG tablet manufactured in 2013, still running Android 4.4. It may be a surprise, but a 6-year-old device was quite as good at Roblox as the fresh one. That’s one more reason to try it; maybe your old hardware will be good with this platform.
Though most games are free, some items in certain games can be bought for money. And maybe these games will even be worth this.
- Great lot of games;
- Unified control;
- Easy to start developing;
- Built-in billing for selling and buying items;
- Social network elements (friends list, chat, ratings and so on).
- Most games are low-quality;
- Doesn’t work offline.
